The First International Conference on Urban Science and Sustainability (USS) Held at IUE

The inaugural International Conference on Urban Science and Sustainability (USS) was successfully held at the Institute of Urban Environment (IUE), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) from December 15 to 17, 2023. The conference brought together more than 200 experts and scholars from over 20 countries to discuss cutting-edge research and innovative solutions for sustainable urban development.

The three-day conference featured 8 keynote speeches, 36 invited presentations, and 12 thematic sessions covering various aspects of urban science, including urban ecology, environmental health, smart city technologies, and sustainable urban planning. Distinguished speakers included leading researchers from the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, and other countries, as well as representatives from international organizations such as the United Nations Environment Programme.

Academician Yong-Guan Zhu, the Science Director of IUE, emphasized in his opening remarks that "this conference establishes an important international platform for interdisciplinary exchange in urban science and will significantly contribute to global sustainable urban development." The conference also included special sessions highlighting China's experiences and achievements in urban ecological civilization construction.
