Together with UHWB, the Institute of Urban Environment (IUE), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) recently hosted the International Workshop on Environmental Dimension of Antimicrobial Resistance under One Health in Ningbo. The event brought together over 100 experts from 15 countries to address the growing global challenge of antibiotic resistance through an integrated environmental, human, and animal health approach.

The symposium featured in-depth discussions on critical issues including surveillance of antibiotic resistance genes in various environments, transmission pathways between ecosystems, and innovative solutions for mitigating AMR risks. Distinguished speakers from the World Health Organization, Food and Agriculture Organization, and leading research institutions presented the latest scientific findings and policy recommendations.

Professor Yong-Guan Zhu, the Science Director of IUE, emphasized in the opening address that "the environmental dimension of antimicrobial resistance has been underestimated in traditional approaches. This workshop marks an important step toward developing comprehensive strategies under the One Health framework." International participants highlighted China's leadership in environmental AMR research and called for strengthened global cooperation.

Key outcomes included the establishment of an international research network for environmental AMR monitoring and a consensus on priority areas for interdisciplinary collaboration. The organizing committee announced plans to publish a white paper compiling the workshop's technical recommendations.
