About UHWB

UHWB is co-organised by ISC and the International Society for Urban Health (ISUH) and hosted by IUE, CAS from 2014. Its International Programme Office (IPO) is financially supported by the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), CAS and the Municipality of Xiamen, China. In 2025, ISC and IUE renewed the memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the continuation of the IPO for UHWB. 

Vision and Goals

Vision:

Building and governing cities as nodal points in global networks and thereby creating healthy and sustainable ‘lives’ for both people and the planet.

Goals:
Support efforts for implementing Health in All Policies and the Xiamen Call for action
Lead the development of an interdisciplinary research project
Communicate the systems approach to urban heath and wellbeing
Inform and develop training and communication material
Build networks for collective intelligence on urban health and wellbeing

History
Urbanization presents opportunities and risks, as well as enormous challenges for maintaining and improving human health and wellbeing. Systems analysis, which is explicitly designed to deal with complexity, and which draws on insights and inputs from diverse scientific disciplines, is an approach that has unique potential to address these issues.

In October 2018, IUE and ISC renewed the UHWB MoU.
